the house in the house; the quest for affluent living of an extended phnom penh family that cherishes the architecture of the golden age of independence of the 1960s. grandparents, parents, each grown up child so to guests and servants shall be given an own house yet under one and the same roof – a boutique hotel like living with ample space for family gatherings and hosting banquets alike, taking advantage of the tropical climate.

 
 

all units are organised along an open, wide, yet well protected corridor circulating around an inner, poetic court with pond. gaps between the units allow for unhindered airflow and glimpses into the outer park. the units themselves are structured by central dividers, leaving all outer walls untouched and produce fascinating transitions from room to room along intriguing long walls, often leading outdoor. Windows set back from the torching sun build sheltered loggias as outdoor extensions of the interior.
